Mortality (The Hitchhiker Strain #1) by Kellie Sheridan Review

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

After surviving a deadly plague outbreak, sixteen-year-old Savannah thought she had lived through the very worst of human history. There was no way to know that the miracle vaccine would put everyone at risk for a fate worse than un-death.

Now, two very different kinds of infected walk the Earth, intent on nothing but feeding and destroying what little remains of civilization. When the inoculated are bitten, infection means watching on in silent horror as self-control disappears and the idea of feasting on loved ones becomes increasingly hard to ignore.

Starving and forced to live inside of the abandoned high school, all Savannah wants is the chance to fight back. When a strange boy arrives with a plan to set everything right, she gets her chance. Meeting Cole changes everything. Mere survival will never be enough.
My Rating and Review

This is book is like The Walking Dead meets 28 weeks later! I love zombies and this is the first "zombie book" I have read that is actually a full fledged zombie book, and I LOVED it! It was intense, the zombies were scarey, and the plot was so much fun to read!
The main character is Savannah, a young woman that wants to do something to help with the zombies. She is a very brave character. She wants so much to do something. She feels impelled to because of her past, but always because she is very driven toward the goals. She goes through a lot in the book, and she deals with it in a very believable manner. I love that she is headstrong and that tends to get her into trouble.
There is another character who has a few chapters in her point of view so we can know her story, Zarah. Through her we get to see what the virus does to a person. I have never read or seen that point of view before so it was a very fascinating, and intriguing.
This books has so many great characters. Each adds their own vital part to the story and where it leads us. I love how the stories meet up, but that is something you will have to read this book to find out.
If you like zombies, read this. End. Of. Story. It's such a great ride, with a great plot and believable back story for why the zombies are there. This is book I would reread and I can't wait to continue the series when the next book comes out!

Don't miss out on a prequel to Mortality...
It's month after the dead first began to walk. The miracle vaccine that was supposed to save us all has failed.
Now, four teens fight to stay alive as a stronger, smarter breed of zombie begins to appear, threatening to end humanity for good.
Four short stories, 11,000 words total.
