There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

 4/5
I loved this book! It is one of the best books I have read so far in the new adult genre. I found it to have a depth to it that most romance novels just do not. It has sweet moments, but it also has some gritty qualities too.

Callie is our wounded heroine. She is far from perfect. She had to endure something so kid should, and then she dealt with it herself instead of telling her family. I love how strong Callie is. She is someone who has learn to go on, even though she had something done to her that would make many people crumble. She doesn't just melt and instantly fall for the hot hero, and I really liked that the most about her. She is a character that is very easy to connect to and enjoy reading her journey throughout the book.

Then there is Kayden. He is also damaged for a completely different reason. I also really enjoyed reading about his growth. He is a swoon worthy hero if I say so myself.

I love that both of our main characters are flawed and neither one of them have had the perfect life. So often you have your one character who has issues and then the other comes from the perfect life. With Callie and Kayden, they lean on each other and start to heal together from the deep wounds of their past.

This was such a great read and I can't wait to read the next in the series. (We are left with a cliff hangers that rips your heart out.) This book has topics that no one likes to discuss, but it really shows how events can effect how a person behaves. I would definitely recommend this book to others. With that, go read this one. It's not one you want to miss out on.
